MUD and More.

Hey everyone...

A few short hours from now, AJ, Caleb, Zach, and I will be departing Maple Valley and Kent on our way to Cascades Camp in Yelm for the annual MUD retreat! We're excited for the things that God has in store for us this weekend. If you all could keep us in your prayers, that be awesome.

Speaking of Prayers, that's what we've been talking about in Life101 - along with a variety of questions that are now displayed on the wall... Prayer, in essence, is communication with God - and it's how we relate to God. We need to keep on communicating and relating with God if we want to grow in our relationship with Him. Keep praying! And look at Matthew 6 for some of what Jesus has to say about prayer.

In church for the next couple of weeks, Kenton will be preaching on the subject of prayer. Bring your thoughts and questions - and don't be afraid to ask him questions after the service if they are still unanswered!

Reminder - there is NO LIFE101 this week because of the retreat - we'll resume on the 24th.

ALSO! From now on, Life101 is meeting at a NEW TIME: 6:00-8:00. Make sure that you remember for the 24th!

In HYPE (which is still meeting from 6:30-8:00), we've been asking the question "Who is Jesus?" This week we discovered that Jesus is the Messiah - the "Anointed One." And thanks to Sam and Eli, we learned about the Old Testament tradition of pouring oil on the head of the next leader. It's a lot messier in person than when we read it in the Bible...

In the spirit of asking questions, I thought that I'd answer a few of the "tougher" questions that have been posted in the Upper Room by the Life101 students! Here goes -
  1. Is it possible to slam a revolving door?
    1. I'm not sure. But it is possible to slam into a revolving door. I've seen that happen several times! And maybe I've done it myself a few times...
  2. Who invented Google?
    1. Larry Page and Sergey Brin. You can read more here.
  3. What makes popcorn pop?
    1. "Only popcorn kernels can pop, and the secret is water. Each kernel contains a small amount of water stored in a circle of soft starch inside the hard outer casing. When heated to around 450F, the moisture turns to steam, creating pressure within. As the pressure builds, the casing eventually gives way, and the kernel explodes and pops, allowing the water to escape as steam and turning the kernel inside out." You can read more here.
  4. How fast does hair grow?
    1. Roughly a half inch a month. You can find out more here!
  5. How many kinds of cheese are there?
    1. Wikipedia, very precisely, says there are 'hundreds.' A good-sized list can be found here.
  6. Who came up with Jolly Ranchers? Can I hug them?
    1. Bill and Dorothy Harmsen in 1949 - in Golden, CO. I don't think you can hug them, because they died in 2002 and 2006.
  7. How many cities are in the world?
    1.   About 300,000 or 24,357, depending on who you ask. I'm no expert!
  8. How big are Shaquille O'Neal's feet?
    1. Size 22 mens.
Whew! Keep them coming... And don't worry, we'll get into some deeper stuff!
